I live in Newberg. I work at Intel in Hillsboro. On my days off I coach Jiu Jitsu. In between that I hang with friends, go to art shows, go to the occasional music concert, jiu jitsu tournament or whatever. Hanging with friends is definitely the best for me. That's why I throw a bunch of parties even though I don't drink. I think I have more girl friends than I do guy friends. Or maybe its the same amount. I am more personal / open with the girls than the guys.
The Intel job is just a job. It pays decent, it's not too stressful yet, and I get long weekends. But Jiu Jitsu is great. But lately I have been coaching more than I have been training so the donuts are catching up to me. Oh yah. I am in a Coaching class that is held at our gym to help out with our coaching skills. It's good stuff. It's people skills and things like that too.
I was born in Vancouver, BC but I have lived in Newberg all of my life. I have dual citizenship. My mom's family lives in Vancouver. I am Chinese. My mom, Rosana or Rosie, is from Canton, China. She moved to Vancouver with her family when she was in her teens. She met my dad, Gary, on a blind date and later married him. My Dads parents were both from China too. But my dad lived in Oregon all his life. Cancer has taken my uncle, aunt, grandmother and grandfather from my dad's side within the past 5 years.
I have 2 brothers. 1 Older and 1 Younger (Paul and Joseph or Joey). Paul is married to Nicole and they have 2 kids, Ben and Noah, who are the cutest little boys. Joey is living in Japan for a year until May. He kind of likes it and kind of doesn't, but it has been a great learning experience so far. I bought Paul and Nicoles old house and with it came a fish pond that has goldfish.
I like Newberg because that's were the majority of my friends are based out of. Plus I can usually be found in the gym on my days off anyways. Whether its at Impact or Excell Fitness. I used to collect comics, but bought a house so I can't really afford them and my interests have changed. Now I focus more on art. But I still buy random comic stuff or go to conventions. Portland is the second biggest comic book mecca, second only to New York City. I have a "40 year old virgin" collection. I need to sell a bunch of it because its taking way too much space. I spend too much money on art, music and dvds.
I have had a roomate for the past 4 or so weeks. He needed a place to stay so I said he could chill at my place. He gets on my nerves sometimes. I lived with my parents until a year ago then I bought my house and have lived by myself since. So having a roommate is a bit different. He will be moving in 2 weeks.
I don't know how to cook. But I've never really tried. I have a stripper pole in my house and I can rock that shit like no other. When I bought my house I had a friend install it and I had a housewarming / halloween party. My mom brought some party stuff over and she saw it and I thought she was going to freak out. But instead the first words out of her mouth were "How do I dance on this?". So now my friend Jenni always teases me with "your mom on a stripper pole."
I play guitar, ukulele and the djembe (African drum). Actually I dink around on them. I know how to play, just not that well. I don't sing or write songs. I dance at clubs if I am with the right people and if I am feeling in the mood.
It's hard to pick a favorite artist / musician so I will just list a bunch that I enjoy the most....
Musicians: Death Cab for Cutie. Yo Yo Ma. Kanye West. Lucero. Copeland. Cursive. Drive by Truckers. Chris Botti. Michael Buble.......
Artists: James Jean. David Mack. David Choe (more for his story than his art). Audrey Kawasaki. Kurt Halsey Frederickson. Craig Thompson. Tim Biskup. Scott Morse. Camilla D'Errico......
Writers: Chuck Palahniuk. Brian Michael Bendis. Greg Rucka. Scott Morse. Craig Thompson. Derek Kirk Kim. Adrian Tomine. David Mack.....All of them are comic book writers except Chuck Palahniuk who wrote Fight Club. And Greg Rucka who writes novels and comics.
There are more to comics than just spandex and tights.
I have not traveled much. I go to Vancouver BC about once a year to visit family. I have been to Disneyland / Universal Studios when I was younger. Just recently to California for a Jiu Jitsu tournament. Been to Seattle a few times. The only big trip I have made is to Singapore to visit a friend and a cousin. On that trip we made a day trip to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. It was sweet. I like traveling but I don't do much of it. I plan on going to Brazil and Japan within the next 6 months, but I keep ending up spending my plane ticket money on art or bills or other stuff.
I am not a big camper. My family was never really outdoorsy. But I have enjoyed it when I have gone with friends. I like going into Portland at night and wandering around. Just walking the streets. Nothing but you and your thoughts.
